You will be offered a face to face or secure video consultation with Dr Goel depending on your needs. This will last up to 50 minutes, with the final 10 minutes for discussion about the plan, if needed. You will receive a report within a week of consultation, which can be shared with your GP/other professionals at your discretion.
The precise nature of the consultation will depend on your needs and difficulties, but will usually include a discussion around your symptoms and the impact they have on your day-to-day life. There is often discussion about aspects of any past mental health problems, and details of your medical history and medications will also be taken.
There will be time towards the end of the assessment to discuss potential diagnoses and explanations of your problems, with a focus on how best to treat the illness. This might include medication suggestions, physical investigations, discussion with allied health professionals such as dieticians or physiotherapists, and referral for further assessment and treatment with a psychologist.
We understand that meeting a professional to discuss these issues, can be anxiety-provoking and stressful. For this reason, you are very welcome to bring along a family member, carer or friend to your appointment. We can reassure you that the process is very relaxed, and should feel quite informal. We have over several years’ experience in providing assessments in this manner, and have excellent feedback from patients about both their experience and the convenience of being assessed at home.
